Abstract

1. 1. Sexually mature female common carp were given intracardiac IC and intrapituitary IP injections of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH) at dosage 1 or 25 μg/kg body weight for 5 days. To investigate the effect of injections the c-GTH-levels were measured by radioimmunoassay and the state of oocyte maturity was determined by an ovarian biopsy. 2. 2. A dose of 1 μg/kg of LH-RH given IP or IC was more effective than that of 25 μg/kg. 3. 3. An increase in c-GTH level causes in ovaries increased oocyte maturation which means that LH-RH chiefly affects oocyte maturation but not ovulation.
