Abstract

Abstract An experiment was conducted to determine the influence of light on yolk pigmentation. In addition, data from a previous experiment on yolk pigmentation were analyzed with respect to pen position in an open house to determine the influence of light intensity on yolk pigmentation. Yolks from birds in windowless houses did not differ significantly in any color measurement from those produced in open houses. However, differences in total feed consumption per egg produced indicated an increase in pigmentation efficiency stimulated by light.
