Abstract

Data from the literature indicate a significant influence of powder refinement on the kinetics and the structure of an obtained material. Decreasing the size of aluminum particles has little or no effect, whereas decreasing the size of iron particles has a significant influence. In this work, detailed results from this research on the influence of removing large particles of iron on the structure and properties of Fe40Al sinters are presented. X-ray diffraction analysis has shown that the intensity of the iron peaks has dropped significantly. Similarly, in the hardness analysis, a twofold decrease in standard deviation was observed. This decrease in the standard deviation is related not only to a decrease in the fraction of areas rich in iron but also to a decrease in aluminum-rich phases (micro-hardness tests).
