Abstract

This study aims to obtain the depictions on how Information and Communication Technology (ICT), especially smartphones, influences the students of Hospital Administration Study Program, Muhammadiyah University of West Sumatra Class of 2019. This research is a descriptive study, with a nonprobability sampling method. The sampling technique used is a census. The results showed that the respondents are Digital Native generations. Digital Native is a term for a person from infancy to adulthood that cannot be separated from digital technology. The results of this study found that majority of the students only utilize smartphone technology for social media and playing games. Students as respondents have not been able to optimize the use of digital technology to support their study or in the learning process. From the results of this study, the researchers provide suggestions so that respondents can get to know and optimize ICT in the learning process as well. The integration of the learning process in the University with ICTs, especially smartphones, should be done in order to achieve the knowledge-based society habitsby maximizing the sophistication of digital technology.
