Abstract

Objective: Background / Introduction. Hypertension is one of the most common causes of myocardial infarction and stroke in the Republic of Kazakhstan. One of the unmodifiable risk factors is heredity. Purpose: evaluating the impact of heredity on lifestyle changes, taking basic therapy, and participating in school for a chronic patient. Design and method: A survey of 354 patients with hypertension identified at screening was carried out. Results: The average age of patients is 54 years [Q1-Q3: 50–54], of which 36.2% are men, 63.8% are women. In 66.7% of patients, heredity is burdened. According to the data obtained, when assessing heredity depending on lifestyle changes, significant differences were revealed (p = 0.004) (methods used: Fisher’s exact test). The chances of changing the lifestyle in the group with a burden of heredity were 2.11 times lower than in the group of non-burdened heredity, the differences in the chances were statistically significant (OR = 0.48; 95% CI: 0.28 - 0.82). According to the data obtained, when analyzing heredity, depending on the intake of basic therapy and the participation of chronic patients in school, we found statistically significant differences (p = 0.003) (methods used: Fisher’s exact test). The chances of receiving basic therapy and participation in school of chronic patients in the group with burdened heredity were 1.97 times higher than in the group of non-burdened heredity, the differences in chances were statistically significant (95% CI: 1.22 - 3.19). Conclusions: According to the data obtained, persons with a burdened heredity change their lifestyle less often, but more often they take basic therapy and participate in the school of chronic patients.
