Abstract

The effect of ground state correlations on the density distributions of nuclei is estimated in a semiclassical approximation. The occupation probability for a single-particle state in the correlated ground state is obtained by folding n( p, r), obtained from the semiclassical self energy, with Hartree-Fock single-particle wave functions. The shape of the charge density in 208Pb agrees well with empirical data, although the bulk density is too low.
