Abstract
The paper presents the impact of using high ash content and poor heating value hard coal as fuel for a steam boiler. As expected, the poor quality of the fuel has an important impact on the efficiency of the steam boiler, reducing it by almost 4%. From that also results an increase in specific fuel consumption of the boiler. The mechanism by which these negative results are reached are mainly the increase in losses through combustion gases by nearly 2% and the heat of the evacuated slag which almost doubles.
