Abstract

The nuclei 127La, 130Ce and 131Ce have been studied using 16O and 18O induced reactions on isotopically enriche indium and tin targets. The γ-rays were detected in an array of five escape suppressed spectrometers. States are established in 130Ce up to 26 + including the start of the second yrast backbend which is seen for the first time in this mass region. The first backbend is observed at a rotational frequency of h ̵ ;ω = 0.32 MeV in both 130Ce and 131Ce. This backbend is not observed in the odd-proton nucleus 127La, which indicates that h 11 2 protons are responsible for this alignment. The data are discussed in the framework of the cranked shell model.
