Abstract
ABSTRACT Service life of asphalt pavements generally depends of a great number of factors such as traffic, climate, structure, subgrade, material properties etc. On low volume roads and airfields, climate and ageing properties of the binder are especially important factors influencing the deterioration and service life of pavements. In an asphalt mixture, the surface area of the filler represents a major part of the total surface area of the aggregate. A laboratory study of the influence of different types of fillers on the rheological and ageing properties of filler-bitumen mixes has been performed. Two types of binder and four different types of filler were used in this study. The laboratory analyses were carried out using test equipment according to the SHRP binder specification. The SHRP binder test equipment seems to be promising also for soft binders aimed for low volume roads, and they also seem to be suitable for filler-bitumen mixes.
