Abstract

THE effects of fiber content and physical form of turkey diets have been studied as separate experimental entities. Only a few reports have appeared in the literature on the effect of dietary energy level on the performance of turkeys. The present paper is the first of a series that will consider the energy requirement of turkeys of different ages and factors that affect this requirement.A review of the literature on turkey poult nutrition reveals that Goff (1932/34) reported the average weight of 16-week-old Bronze poults fed diets containing from 3.77 to 11.62 percent fiber increased as the fiber level decreased. Goodeal and Moore (1941) were among the first to study the influence of physical form of the diet on the performance of poults.
