Abstract

The establishment of polytechnics in Malaysia was to fulfill the needs of providing education andpractical knowledge to help the nation producing semi-professional workers in various disciplines suchas engineering, commerce and hospitality. Leadership is an important component that contributestowards the success of any education institution. Better and advance leadership practices are neededin order to improve the status and standard of environment on campus (Zaharah, 2004). According toCunningham and Cordeiro (2000), effective leaders must be able to understand all elements ofeducational administration in the process of building the education excellence and translating it intoteaching and practices. Simkins (2005) states that the world is dominated by the idea that leadershipis a factor or the only factor that can guarantee the success or failure of any organization – be it aschool, a college or a university.
