Abstract

The average linear thermal expansion coefficients of single-domain and multi-domain tetragonal KTA 1 - x Nb x O 3 ( x = 0.5 and x = 0.48, respectively) crystals were measured in the vicinity of tetragonal-cubic phase transition temperature by using thermal mechanical analysis method. The influence of domain state on thermal mechanical properties of these crystals has been investigated. The possibility of determining the dominant spontaneous polarization direction of a multi-domain crystal by its thermal mechanical properties is discussed.
