Abstract

In the investigation of typical masonry buildings in villages of China, it was found that the number of masonry structures accounted for more than 90% of buildings (Wang et al., 2022). The mortars used in masonry structures in villages of China have developed rapidly from mud to while clay mortar/slag mortar and to cement mortar. In this article, it is found that there is a difference of the compressive strength between the result calculated by the Chinese standard code and the experimental result. The test of the compressive strength of masonry columns with different types of mortars is carried out for modifying the equations. The research is carried out from the perspectives of stress-strain curve, elastic modulus, Poisson's ratio, compressive strength of masonry columns. The results show that the compressive strength of the masonry increases with the increase of the compressive strength of the mortar. The compressive strength of the experimental values is 1.2 times more than the calculated value of the specification. Therefore, the study puts forward the revised equation for masonry in terms of stress-strain relationship, elastic modulus, Poisson's ratio, and compressive strength of masonry.
