Abstract

In this paper, the effect of diamond tool surface quality on workpiece roughness is examined for the turning of OF-copper. It was found that the surface quality of the diamond tool at the cutting edge(Ra,RMS,P-V) has a strong correlation with surface quality of the machined workpiece. Especially the tool roughness on the rake face at the cutting edge in a direction parallel to the tangent line of the cutting edge and the roughness on flank face at the cutting edge in a direction parallel to the tangent line of the cutting edge, affect the machined surface quality (roughness) directly. These parameters could be used to define the tool quality and could also be used to estimate the surface quality of the workpiece to be machined.
