Abstract

After a brief review of the history of textile printing in the U. K., the factors responsible for the decline in the export trade over the last 50 years are outlined. Factors that affect printing prices and costs are indicated, including the number of dyes that have to be stocked and the run of a particular design. African and Western printing styles are surveyed and printing processes are briefly mentioned. Finally, the influence of newer fibres and finishes on printing and possible future developments are considered.
