Abstract

In this study, the microstructures and textures of rolled and rolled/annealed Mg–1 wt.%Mn-based alloys containing different levels of Ce (from 0.05 to 1.0 wt.%) were examined. The Ce addition refined the as-cast and rolled/annealed grain structure of Mg–1 wt.%Mn alloy. Moreover, the overall texture intensity of basal pole was weakened for rolled as well as rolled/annealed Mg–Mn–Ce alloys compared to the Mg–1 wt.%Mn (M1) alloy. The texture weakening was attributed to the solid solubility of Ce in Mg rather than particle stimulated nucleation (PSN) or c/ a ratio alteration.
