Abstract

1. 1. The mutual effects of catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine) and thiamine on the mydriatic mechanism of Bufo viridis were examined. 2. 2. It was found that epinephrine injected simultaneously with thiamine is a more potent mydriatic agent than norepinephrine, the final effect being dependent only on the amounts of catecholamines. 3. 3. Thiamine influences probably only those animals which fail to respond to catecholamines. 4. 4. It was suggested that no antagonism between exogenic catecholamines and thiamine exists and that each group of materials acts independently, epinephrine and norepinephrine directly, while thiamine, by preventing the production or release of endogenous norepinephrine and/or epinephrine acts indirectly.
