THE INFLUENCE OF BEBOP MUSIC STYLE ON MODERN JAZZ PERFORMANCE

Abstract

Research objective is to outline the features of the influence of the bebop music style on modern jazz performance. The methodology of research is based on system-analytical and comparative methods. The scientific novelty. The article identifies the main innovations of the bebop direction that have influenced the jazz art of today. The discovery of new technical possibilities of instruments, the emergence of playing techniques and vocal methods of sound production (scat), became a manifestation of individual performing improvisational freedom of musicians. Their experimental discoveries, including those written by masters of the bebop era, are now an integral part of today’s jazz practice. Conclusions. The formation of the bebop direction was an extremely important stage in the development of jazz art. The transition from commercialized swing forms of music to free bebop improvisations was a turning point, which laid the foundations of modern jazz. Bebop is formed on the basis of swing music standards, which began to be framed in a fundamentally different form. The principle of changing the melodic, rhythmic or even harmonic factor in the interpretation of the theme became the basis for most of the jazz trends that are common today. The virtuosity of the performance, which was achieved by instrumentalists, was picked up in the vocal sphere. The formation of scat vocals arose as a result of imitating the sound of instruments and approaching them in technical virtuosity and skill. Bebop became the basis for the formation of hard bop and influenced other styles of jazz. Currently, the achievements of bebop are presented on the jazz stage in the form of works written by bebop master’s, using the principle of melody harmonization, the use of complex techniques of playing instruments and the use of scat vocals in improvisation, as well as a basic method of sound production.
