Abstract

Experimental results obtained by the photoacoustic microscopy for Vickers and Rockwell indentation zones in metals are presented. The influence of the external stresses, annealing and grinding on the photoacoustic images of the indentations is demonstrated for steel samples. It is shown that the image changes depend on initial residual stress before indentations. It is experimentally established a difference in sensitivities of amplitude and phase of the PA signal to elastic and plastic deformations. The structural changes of the samples were found out by the PA microscopy after annealing.
