Abstract

The influence of the rate of aeration on 1·5 m columns of composting mixtures of 2 parts poultry manure and 1 part ground corncob was investigated. The results indicated that the optimum aeration rate for the production of a stable sanitary compost was 4 litres of air/m 2/min for every 10 cm of composting material up to a maximum depth of about 2·4 m.
