Abstract

An analysis has been made of deactivation by fouling in adiabatic fixed bed reactors for reactions obeying Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetics for both main and fouling reactions. The effect of the Thiele modulus and equilibrium adsorption constants were investigated and were shown to have a profound influence on the shape of the activity profile in the reactor. It is shown, that under certain conditions for reactions where fouling occurs by a parallel mechanism, activity profiles in the reactor do not follow previously accepted patterns.
