Abstract

1. 1. Oxygen consumption was measured at four temperatures for a size-range of Musculium partumeium acclimatized to four different temperatures. 2. 2. The b-value from the equation o 2 = a AFDW b (where o 2 = metabolic rate—μl O 2 O 2/clam/hr and AFDW = ash-free dry weight in mg)—was not significantly different from 1.0 except when oxygen consumption at 5°C was determined for clams acclimatized to 5°C. 3. 3. Patterns of acclimatization varied with temperature and size and appeared to be related to life history aspects of this freshwater clam.
