Abstract

The effect of a progressively growing methylcholanthrene-induced tumour on the host’s immune response to sheep red blood cells was assessed. Total splenic lymphocyte counts were found to be significantly higher in humour bearing animals than controls at all stages of tumour growth. Tumour-bearing animals had greater numbers of plaque-forming cells per spleen than corresponding control animals. Serum IgM antibody titres, measured using a chromium release assay, were found to be depressed in tumour-bearing animals.
