Abstract

A novel view has been shown to analyze the choice of inductance between transmission lines and conventional spiral inductor. We systematacially compare this three types of components which have the properties of inductance. We analyze size, inductance, Q-factor, and self-resonance frequency(f SR ) of the three types components. As a result, when compared on the premise of the same inductance, single coil inductor shows best inductor performance but occupies the biggest area. The spiral inductor shows the highest f SR . Besides, the transmission line shows great compromise between the spiral and single coil inductor in millimeter-wave applications.
