Abstract

A ridged foil journal bearing having a finite length and lubricated with an incompressible fluid was analytically investigated in order to understand and quantify its behaviour. The operating characteristics of the bearing are computed. Design charts are presented for a range of eccentricity ratios, showing the influence of the variation in the compliances of both the supporting ridges and the upper foil.
