Abstract

Gongylonema pulchrum was present in 49.7% of the 555 cattle examined at the central Tehran abattoir during two sampling years, 1973–1974 and 1977–1978. No gross lesions indicative of a pathological condition were associated with any infection. A marked over-dispersed distribution was observed and the data approximate a negative binomial distribution. There was no significant directional orientation of the worms along the oesophageal tract; however, there was a predilection by the worms for sites towards the distal portion of the oesophagus.
