Abstract

1. A new organ culture technique is described which has been developed for use with the slug Agriolimax reticulatus. 2. The culture medium used is capable of maintaining cells in a 'normal' state, when studied with the electron microscope, for more than 28 days. 3. Explants of hermaphrodite gland, common duct and brain were cultured in isolation and grouped in various combinations. 4. These experiments have shown evidence of hormones affecting the male cell line in the hermaphrodite gland, and secretory cells in the prostate. Key words: organ culture, hermaphrodite gland, common duct, hormone, Agriolimax reticulatus.
