Abstract
The quest for the fountain of youth is eternal, a reflection of the unquenchable human urge to improve on nature—including ways to enhance the most pleasurable of all passions. The powerful urge to experience ever greater heights of sexual gratification developed at some stage in human evolution into a universal dream that captivated people of all times and places throughout history. The fact that hope and expectation almost always exceed accomplishment never stood in the way of people trying an amazing profusion of imaginative techniques, substances, and devices. The dream is as elusive as the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, still there is more than a glimmer of hope that human ingenuity can bring the dream closer to reality as we begin a new millennium.
