Highlights
I have been extremely fortunate to have a number of exceptional role models during my research career
I describe some of my experiences as an undergraduate, and I hope that this story will serve as a reminder of the importance of role models for young scientists
My research career got its start at a bus stop on a bitterly cold morning in the winter of 1980 in Madison, Wisconsin
Summary
The Importance of Role Models in Research Hachung and Ryan were laboratory aides that that became outstanding undergraduate researchers and went on to obtain a PhD at Harvard and a MD/PhD at Columbia, respectively. I have been extremely fortunate to have a number of exceptional role models during my research career.
