Abstract

A high resolution photoelectron spectrum is reported for the Br3d level of HBr, and both ligand-field splitting and vibronic couplings are resolved. Based on this new result, the MVV Auger spectrum and pre-edge photoabsorption (EELS) spectrum are reinterpreted, with the aid of an SW-Xα calculation. Ligand field splitting dominates all three spectra, and is likely to be important for high resolution core level spectroscopic studies.
