Abstract
Research advances are generating a growing list of genetic variants that substantially increase risk for mental illness, especially so for pediatric-onset conditions. Gene dosage disorders (GDDs: aneuploidies and subchromosomal copy number variants [CNVs]) are of particular importance for clinicians and researchers due to their recurrent nature. The link between GDDs and mental illness risk impacts child and adolescent psychiatry at multiple levels including clinical assessment, genetic testing, and follow-up care.
