Abstract

The value to management of campaigning against the union as early as possible, even during the pre‐petition stage, is incalculable. Mindsets can set rapidly, and once people sign union cards or become attracted to the union's side, it may be difficult to change attitudes. During the early stages, voters who are first exposed to the union organizer's point of view will not have an opportunity to have heard management's side of the story. It is therefore imperative for management to move quickly. The disadvantages of union organization and the possible negative consequences must be communicated early, directly, and forcefully.
