Abstract
The maritime business is crucial to the development of human civilization. Since ancient times, shipping provides cheap enough and secure transport of goods and people throughout the world. This is particularly true in today's integrated and global world. The article reviewed the historical aspects of the development of world shipping. Thanks to it ports around the world are integrated into one common global system. Not only historically, but also nowadays shipping revolutionize ports in their development. The article presents the main phases representing the development of ports.
