Abstract

This research examined the application of the Talking Stick cooperative learning model as an attempt to improve students’ learning outcomes on the topic of the potential of Indonesia's natural resources. The Talking Stick model is an alternative in increase students’ interest for students in participating on the lessons. Therefore, they can learn integrated social studies and they are able to understand the knowledge provided by the teacher and their learning environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the process of implementing the Talking Stick model that can improve student learning outcomes on the concepts of the potential of Indonesia's natural resources at the fifth grade. The subjects of this study were teachers and 20 students from the fifth grade. This research took place at SDN 226 Galung Langie at Soppeng Regency. Data collection techniques used were in the form of observation, tests and documentation. The data were analyzed in four stages, namely analyzing data, reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. The results from observing teachers’ showed that the implementation of learning carried out by teachers are in the good category (95.2%). Meanwhile, for students’ activities, the result of the study revealed that the students achieved KKM (75) at 85% or in the good category. The conclusion of this study is that there is an increase in student learning outcomes in social studies subjects in the on the topic of the potential of Indonesia's natural resources through the implementation of the Cooperative Talking Stick model.
