Abstract

In order to meet the users' needs of high-definition and high-refresh-rate on TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display) screen, the theory presents a design scheme of a high-speed TFT-LCD controller. After reviewing the traditional design including the basic structure and function of the controller, the theory puts forward the scheme of improving data communication efficiency. E.g. DMA (Direct Memory Access) operation between frame-buffer controller and display controller, extending process cycle to reach a high pixel filling rate, more frame-buffer blocks synchronized and switched by hardware. A testing design by FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) and SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory) shows that the controller based on such design scheme has advantages such as high pixel filling rate, high-definition support, high response speed, high flexibility and high customizability to be adapt to the demand of high-speed or low-speed external devices.
