Abstract

The most promising treatment choice now available in dentistryin order to replace a missing tooth is dental implant.Survival of an implant to a greater extend depends on the local, systemic conditions and also on certain habitual influences of the patient. Hence,for an implant treatment to be successful, it is very crucial to choose patients who do not possess any local or systemic contraindications to this therapy. Treatment planning for dental implants involve the assessment of patient-related risk factors, prior to the formulation of a treatment plan. The clinician must have thorough knowledge and understanding on the risk factors involved in the process, in order to advise patients who are consideringimplants as their treatmentoptions.This paper presents a summaryfrom all the obtainable resources of the literatures demonstrating the fact on factors influencing the survival of dental implants, which might help in better understanding of thefactors necessary for the success of dental implants.
