Abstract

High-quality higher education has long been a necessity in the modern world, because it is often one of the few "social elevators". This paper examines the impact of university rankings (international and Russian) on higher education. The study of changes in the availability of higher education, indicators reflecting the quality of education, and also identified indicators that distort the places of Russian universities in international rankings, underestimating them. At the same time, the university's desire to "enter" the rating or improve its position in it may have negative consequences.
