Abstract

In this paper, we introduce the impact of non-linear high-power amplifier (NL HPA) on the bit error rate (BER) and on the spectrum efficiency of multicarrier techniques. A comparison between two multicarrier transmission techniques based on cognitive radio (CR) is presented: the classical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), based on cyclic prefix (CP), and the filter bank-based multicarrier (FBMC), based on filter bank architecture, including HPA model. One of the key issues is the large peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) resulting in signal OFDM, what becomes, the performance of the transceiver is very sensitive to nonlinear distortions caused by HPA. In this work, we treat the impact of the nonlinear distortion for both OFDM-CR and FBMC-CR systems over Rayleigh fading channel.
