Abstract

United States legislation, culminating in the Age Discrimination in Employment Act 1967, and its amendments, are discussed in terms of their effect on personnel policies generally and employee benefit plans in particular. The article seeks to explain both general principles and concrete applications of the Act and suggests approaches towards avoiding confrontation with Federal agencies in personnel policy and practice.
