Abstract
ABSTRACT This research re-evaluates wage discrimination in the National Basketball Association (NBA) following the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) being implemented. Using free agent data, weighted least square regression, and the Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition, our results indicate that race does not significantly predict NBA players’ salaries, on average, after the 2017 CBA went into effect. Nevertheless, quantile regressions show discrimination remains present for star players. The results emphasize the potential positive effects that labour union agreements bring to professional sports labour markets.
