Abstract

The pH of culture media is thought to impact embryo development. However, as pH is set via the equilibrium between CO2 and bicarbonate, isolating pH as the sole variable can be difficult. Improving preimplantation embryo development via optimizing incubator CO2 concentration, bicarbonate concentration and pH of the culture media may help further improve culture conditions. To begin to investigate each variable’s individual impact on mouse embryo development, the impact of an increased sodium bicarbonate concentration in the culture medium on embryo development was explored.
