The impact of public awareness of social work on the overall prestige of the profession

Abstract

Social work is a fairly new professional field in our country. The «Social Work» major was introduced on August 7, 1991 in accordance with the order of the USSR State Committee for Public Education No. 376 «On the opening of the «Social Work» major» [1]. Over the thirty years that this occupation has been studied and taught, the approaches not only to the social work study, but also directly to the professional activities of social workers have changed in many ways. However, in the eyes of ordinary people, a social worker remains not a representative of a serious profession, a certified specialist and a professional in his field, but an extremely incomprehensible person. For ordinary people, the job of a social worker is not important or prestigious, and this is largely due to people's ignorance of the social worker’s professional activities.
