Abstract

The daily office records of 88 dentists were analyzed, and data were collected to determine their daily dental activities. Dentists practicing preventive dentistry placed less amalgam restorations, extracted less teeth, made fewer dentures, but did more gold inlays and gold foil restorations, periodontal treatments, and crown and bridge units than dentists not concerned with preventive practice. Dentists practicing preventive dentistry also had a higher income than general practitioners who did not routinely practice preventive dentistry.
