Abstract

Review Question/Objective The objective of this systematic review is to synthesize the best available evidence on the impact of pre-injury anticoagulation therapy in the older adult patient who experiences a traumatic brain injury. Inclusion Criteria Types of Participants This systematic review will consider studies which include patients age 65 years or older, regardless of gender or ethnicity, who have experienced a traumatic brain injury. Types of Intervention The intervention of interest is the use of anticoagulants and/or antiplatelet prescription medication prior to the traumatic brain injury. Types of Comparator The intervention of interest will be compared to non-use of prescription anticoagulants and/or antiplatelet medication therapy. Types of Outcome Measures This review will consider studies that include the following outcome measure: death before discharge from the acute care setting.
