Abstract

paper presents preliminary results of the atmospheric module of a comprehensive study aiming to evaluate the impact of manganese and gold mining activities to the natural environment of tropical rain forest in Amapa State, North Brazil. This project entitled: The mercury cycle in Amazonian Forest Ecosystem: evaluation of gold mining activities impact, in Amapa State. Sponsored by the National Research Council (CNPq), has the objective to promote the understanding of trace elements cycles in atmosphere and in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, mainly the mercury due to the gold mining activities. atmospheric module has been composed by a several field campaigns where the paniculate matter (PM) was analysed for the determination of shape and composition by means of collecting inhalable particles as well as the surface meteorological and satellite data. data were collected in two stations and climatological analysis were performed of other meteorological surface data. aim of this project is to show a significant correlation between the meteorological events and the seasonal variability of atmospheric constituents.
