Abstract

There are great differences in running environment between submarine cable and ordinary land cable, especially in the air laying segment where is in long-term breeze environment. The IEC standard conductor temperature calculation method does not take into account the impact of the wind speed on the conductor temperature in actual operation. In this paper, by analyzing the impact of wind speed on the submarine cable electrical characteristics, using the finite element simulation method, simulate the submarine cable conductor temperature in actual operation under the different wind speed. And verify that the IEC standard conductor temperature calculation method, as well as the current carrying capacity calculation method, is unreasonable in the air laying segment of the submarine cable.
