Summary
Constant competition and a profit focus urge enterprises to strive for the best performance at low costs, which can be achieved if they eliminate their losses, spare time and spare resources, and constantly evolve to meet the changing marketplace. This ordinary but still great idea is the basis of one of the most popular enterprise management strategies: the lean approach. The outstanding character of this approach lies in its simplicity, since this strategy concerns finding the shortest way and eliminating all barriers from it This way of thinking is totally logical and rational, most enterprises are unable to establish a lean organisation because they wrongly consider lean to be a complex combination of methods and tools. According to Sterling and Boxall, “a successful transition to lean ways of working hinges on whether workers will learn and apply the relevant skills” (Sterling & Boxall, 2013)
