Abstract

• Early college opportunities continue to grow in traditional high school settings. • A credit-only approach in early college programs is not making the expected impact on students’ educational outcomes. • Commitment to making educational and career decisions is a critical milestone in adolescents’ identity development stages. • College counseling services should include more comprehensive support to incorporate college academic advising. • Intrusive advising, has proven to be a successful strategy in increasing students’ commitment to attain a college degree.
