Abstract

Over the years, researchers have shown the potential of ICT in transforming and reinventing governance. Given this potential of technology, African countries have substantially invested in ICT over the past two decades. However, past studies that examined the impact of ICT on governance have mainly focused on Western countries while. Little empirical research on the impact of ICT on governance in Africa exists. Using a multi-method approach, we analysed archival data for 28 African countries for a period from 2005 to 2011. The findings indicate that ICT has a statistically positive significant impact on governance. The findings suggest that investment in ICT infrastructure has a potential to reinventing governance in Africa. However, such investment must be implemented parallel with strategies that ensure ICT access for all. The current study has theoretical, methodological and policy implications.
