Abstract

Pinrang Regency has 15,675 hectares of pond which is predominantly shrimp pond. The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) in collaboration with Pinrang Government continues to encourage shrimp cultivation through the application of sustainable aquaculture management principles, including good fish farming methods (CBIB). Since its implementation in 2007, Pinrang has only reached 227 CBIB certificates according to Directorate General of Aquaculture (DJPB) data in 2019. The low number of CBIB certifications in Pinrang has prompted research to examine the impact of CBIB certification on fisheries business performance, such as; production, costs, and profits. The research objective was to assess the impact of product certification implementation on shrimp farming activities in Pinrang. The research was conducted in May - July 2020, the sampling locations were in the districts of Lanrisang, Mattiro Sompe, and Duampanua. A total of 160 respondents consisting of 100 CBIB certified respondents and 60 non-certified respondents. Data were analyzed using the endogenous switching regression (ESR) model. The results show that the application of CBIB has a positive impact on the performance of shrimp farming. Shrimp production will decrease if CBIB farmers do not apply CBIB (counterfactual), and vice versa, if non-CBIB farmers apply CBIB certification, their production will increase (counterfactual). The results of the falsification test on the ESR model on extension agents (frequency of assistance by aquaculture extension) have a positive effect on shrimp farmer participation, so it is recommended to strengthen the aquaculture extension assistance process to accelerate the achievement of CBIB certification in Pinrang.
